Introduction

Being the center of attention can be intimidating. How can you control fear so that it doesn’t interfere with your presentation? In the “Managing Presentation Anxiety” training, we will find the right tools and techniques for each participant to help them on their journey.

Outcome

After the training, participants will understand the nature, causes, and expressions of presentation anxiety. They will know the main components of presentation skills, principles, and techniques that build presentation confidence. They will also be able to analyze their own presentation anxiety, its causes, expressions, and ways to cope with it.

Trainer

For the last 10 years, Ly has been conducting communication training, coaching student advisors at TalTech, guiding self-management courses, and leading communication psychology lectures, seminars, and workshops. She has been involved in various educational projects. As a communication coach, Ly believes that strong communication skills lead to a happier and more successful life and relationships, and create a much more pleasant work environment, which helps maintain employee (mental) health and ensures better work performance.

Curriculum: Internal Training “Managing Presentation Anxiety”

Curriculum Area: Personal Development

Curriculum Basis: The curriculum is based on public sources, which are referenced in the training materials.

Objective:

  • Provide a brief overview of the key components and principles of presentation skills.
  • Understand the nature, causes, and expressions of presentation anxiety.
  • Introduce techniques for building presentation confidence.
  • Practice presenting and analyze individual presentation anxiety, its causes, expressions, and strategies for managing anxiety.

Learning Outcomes: After completing the training, participants will:

  • Know the elements and various forms of presentation.
  • Understand the nature and causes of presentation anxiety.
  • Be aware of the possible manifestations of presentation anxiety.
  • Analyze personal presentation anxiety causes and forms.
  • Have an overview of techniques to build presentation confidence.
  • Practice techniques to strengthen presentation confidence.

Target Audience: Anyone who wants to manage their presentation anxiety.

Prerequisites: A B2 (independent user) level of Estonian is required to participate in the training.

Duration: 1 training day (8 academic hours)

Training Content:

  • Different forms of presentation, elements, and presentation skills as trainable skills.
  • The nature, causes, and manifestation of presentation anxiety.
  • Coping with presentation anxiety (enhancing emotional balance in various presentation situations).
  • Individual presentation anxiety analysis.
  • Techniques for building presentation confidence.
  • Practicing presentation confidence techniques.
  • Practice: participants’ brief presentations, self-analysis, group discussions.

Teaching Methods: The training will be in seminar format, using active learning methods, various exercises, group work, and group discussion/analysis. After the training, participants can contact the trainer for further questions and advice.

Training Environment Description: The training takes place in a group-discussion-friendly environment, equipped with presentation technology and a whiteboard. We accommodate participants with special needs within our competence and capabilities. The training can also be held online via Zoom.us. The trainer will send participants a link to join the virtual room.

Participants: A maximum of 16 people per group.

Materials:

  • Materials created by the trainer.
  • Necessary learning tools will be provided by the trainer during the training.

Completion Requirements:

  • Active participation throughout the training.
  • Completion of assessment methods.

Assessment Methods:

  • Discussions.
  • Group work.
  • Independent practical exercises.

Assessment Criteria:

  • Self-reflection.
  • Peer reflection with fellow participants.

Issued Documents:

  • Certificate (issued upon fulfilling completion requirements).
  • Evidence (issued if the completion requirements are not met).

Trainer Qualifications:

  • At least 15 years of experience as a trainer.
  • At least 250 hours of presentation skills lectures/training conducted.
  • Completed trainer training.
  • Proficiency in Estonian as a native speaker or at least C1 level.
